Who Are Advantis Credit Ltd?

Advantis Credit is one of the leading debt collection companies in the UK, specialising in debt collection and credit management. As such, there's a good chance you'll be contacted by them if you have unresolved debt.

Launched in 2004, Advantis is based in Stoke-on-Trent, with field agents operating across England and Wales. Their agents work on behalf of some of the largest household names, including utility companies like Npower and Severn Trent Water.

Important to note: Advantis is a debt collection agency NOT a bailiff. This means that their powers are much more limited than if your debt had been passed to an enforcement agent (bailiff).

What Debts Can Advantis Collect?

Advantis Credit Ltd collects debts on behalf of other companies. As well as private companies such as Thames Water and United Utilities, they also collect money for the HMRC and the DVLA.

Who Are Advantis Credit Regulated By?

Advantis Credit is regulated by the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority), and its agents are registered to work across both England and Wales. They’re also members of the CSA (Credit Services Association), which is the main trade association for debt collection and the debt purchase industry within the UK.

Can Advantis Credit Ltd Enter Your Home?

Debt collectors from Advantis might attend your property in order to take payment for your debt. Unlike bailiffs, debt collectors don't need to give you notice before a visit, but they'll usually contact you in advance - often by phone or post. If Advantis debt collectors do try to reach you at your property, you do not have to let them in. Debt collectors have no additional power over your creditors, so you don't have to deal with them if you don't want to. If you do decide to allow them inside and want to pay your debt off with them, it's important to always check their paperwork and get proof of identification.

Debt collectors can't attend the property if people classed as being vulnerable currently reside there. Under the law, vulnerable people include:

  • People with health conditions - either physical or mental
  • Children under the age of 16
  • Elderly people over the age of 65
  • Pregnant women
  • People who don't speak English as a first language

They're also not allowed to come to your workplace or chase anyone else (for example, family members) for your debt - if they do, you should report them for using unfair debt collection tactics. Legally, this is counted as harassment and the company can be reported for unacceptable behaviour under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations Act 2008.

Can Advantis Seize Your Goods?

Debt collection agencies are often confused with bailiffs - the good news is that Advantis agents are classed as debt collectors, so they’re unable to seize goods as payment towards your debt.

Debt collectors are only allowed to take monetary payments - they'll usually offer you a payment plan or settle your debt via card payment.

If you do choose to pay debt collection agents, it's important to ensure you get a receipt. If they contact you via phone and you decide to pay that way, always ask the caller for valid proof that they are who they say they are first.

If a doorstep collector tries to take goods from you, this is illegal and must be reported.

Paying Your Debt Off with Advantis Credit

As previously stated, you don't have to deal with Advantis debt collectors if you don't want to. However, if you choose to, you can clear your debt with them - this can only be done through a monetary payment and they can't seize any goods as remuneration.
